Afraid to Ask You

Now that you are closer to me than I could have ever imagined
it is not love that I have come to

with its seeming dependencies and lack of impurity
still this fulfillment I cannot get rid of

still longing when there is nothing to long
flailing into the fact that you are still distant

thinking of asking you to take me in and dance
to no particular song

Kyle Singh is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where he studied theoretical physics and mathematics. He is currently a graduate student at Dartmouth College where he works on foundations of Physics and Quantum Field Theory. At Dartmouth, he studied poetry with Cynthia Huntington. He has also translated the notable Punjabi poet Amrita Pritam. Several of his recent translations can be found in ITERANT. He is originally from Hicksville, NY.
