Artist Statement by Jacob Michaud
Jacob Michaud graduated with a Bachelors in Biology in May 2018 from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. He is currently playing in his power-violence band, called Livid, around the states. Jacob makes art in his free time for a commission, and for personal enjoyment.
Jacob’s Artistic Style
I’d say my artistic style is extremely dark for the most part. I love really intense things, hence why I play in a power-violence band. I like things that provoke emotion, and a lot of my art is the release of stress, sadness, or anger. Art is pretty much therapeutic for me. Being straightedge, that and working out keep me going. Kind of an all over the place answer, but basically my art is just showing some of the fucked up things in life we all go through in one shape or another.
Mediums
I usually do either collages or drawings. All the images taken were of me making a collage. When I draw it’s a similar set up, with my laptop for music, my art pad, a pencil, and many pens. When it comes to doing the collages, I either do them digitally using my computer, using Inkscape and Microsoft paint (yes, you heard that right) or by hand. When I make them by hand I use a plethora of magazines and books, which takes awhile to get the right pictures but there’s something more fulfilling about doing it by hand. Even though it’s a pain in the ass.
We will be showcasing Jacob Michaud’s work throughout the month of April. Tune in every Tuesday for more on Jacob’s artwork.
A lot of Jacob’s work is shown through his band Livid.
