Submission Workshop Recap

Don’t be discouraged about submitting your work! If you are writing, you should be submitting to various places.

  1. Before you submit, remember to read the guidelines carefully and intensely edit your work. Grammar Matters!
  2. Prepare your manuscript: Use a word processing software such as Microsoft Word, One Note, or Scrivener (https://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener.php) Make sure the formatting is right. Writer’s Market (http://www.writersmarket.com/) has more information.
  3. Finding a Venue: Online Resources include Writer’s Market (can also submit in print) and Duotrope (https://duotrope.com/ ). Submittable (https://www.submittable.com/) is a great online submission software. Don’t forget about where you read from, you can submit to anywhere that accepts submissions.
  4. Cover Letter Tips: Find the current editor. Keep the cover letter short, but make sure to include the word count. A short bio is okay, include previous publications, about 25 words. Most importantly, thank the editors.
