Because I Love You

“Home” is a relative term.

Last year it meant Los Angeles,
Sunshine and orange trees.
My parents and my brother.
And longing.
Now, the word brings in mind without regret
This place. This duplex.
Frigid winds.
And you.

Many of the poems which appear in Schroeder’s three books of poetry were first published in “The Poet’s Pen”, “SP Quill Quarterly Magazine”, “Westward Quarterly”, “Midwest Poetry Review”, and a number of other magazines. She is a widowed mother of six adult children. “Home” has meant Texas, Kansas, and the state of Washington. Somewhere along the line she earned a bachelor’s degree in English.
