Friday September 30th, 2011 Straylight hosted a lively Open Mic Night in the Den at UW-Parkside, kicking off this fall with a variety of talents.
We were glad to welcome returning players as well as first-time performers to the local literary scene. To name a few, we enjoyed a bit of fiction from Trevor Henkel, the musical stylings of Matt Leptich, a comedic performance by Emma Lenar, and some very entertaining poetic duets by Nick Knebel & Monica Scholle and Mark Bilbrey & Eric Hinkle.
Poetry took on a life of its own on Friday night when Parkside’s own poetry professor was taken over by the essence of a very predatory pterodactyl (regrettably not caught on tape). We do, however, have photos taken by Carl Rollmann that highlight the festivities.
Thank you to everyone who came to support Open Mic and we hope to have an even more impressive turnout for the next event. For details of upcoming events hosted by Straylight as well as others around the area, check for updates on the Events Page.
